The Liberals have neglected public housing for a decade. We need a long-term boost to public housing to help get more Tasmanians into homes, and that’s what I intend to do if I get the chance.
Housing & Homelessness
The appallingly low rental vacancy rate in Hobart is a disgraceful result of state and federal government policies that favour property investors and tourists over residents.
Council’s resources are limited in this area but I have done my best to pull those levers that are available to us. I worked on and supported the 2023 decision to double property rates for whole-of-house short stay accommodation (WSSA) properties in Hobart.

I have also worked hard with the Council’s Housing With Dignity Reference Group since I was elected in 2022. This Group is made up of Tasmanians suffering homelessness or housing stress, and my membership led directly to me bringing on a successful Council motion to fund a trial emergency shelter for homeless people in Hobart during extreme weather events.
